Is Technology Separating You From Your Community?

Woman on Cell Phone

The California Association of Realtors has conducted a survey about people, technology and their communities. According to the survey (pictured below) more than 60% of heavy internet users feel disconnected from their communities.

It has always been said that paying attention at your phone would cause you to miss out on the world around you, which is especially true when you watch hilarious videos of people running into poles and fountains. I’ve asked many of my buyers and sellers if they know who their neighbors are and many do know them….kind of.

I guess as a realtor, it does not seem like an issue for me because I have to be in touch with the communities in and out of Los Angeles to see how the markets are changing on a day to day basis.

The lesson here should be the same, you do not necessarily need to put down your phone, just bring it along while you go out and discover the world around you, even it means taking a walk or hiking up that mountain.
